One of the biggest challenges facing the RFID supply chain is choosing the right type of tag and then deciding where it should be placed on the product’s packaging. Incorrectly placed tags can lead to poor reading results and could mean failure to meet mandated compliance standards.

This is where CAPE Systems, with its tag locator software, hopes to make a difference. The New Jersey-based company is a provider of software technology for packaging design, RFID asset tracking, pallet optimization, inventory and warehouse management, supply chain execution and order fulfillment. Last month, it introduced its RFID Tag Locator software designed for RFID tag placement analysis and pallet-reading optimization.

EarthSearch inks deal to curb oil theft, Nigeria

EarthSearch Communications has entered into a partnership agreement with Cynox, the Nigerian technology solutions provider, to monitor fuel levels in oil tankers.

In Nigeria, the cancellation of government oil subsidies has lead to increasing concerns over oil theft. EarthSearch’s integrated RFID and GPS product, together with level sensor technology will be used to monitor sudden drops in fuel level to detect the unauthorized siphoning of oil from the top of tanker.

Zebra, Checkpoint Systems partnershp extends enterprise visibility

Zebra and Checkpoint Systems have entered into a cooperative relationship and licensing agreement. While the exact terms of the transaction were not disclosed, the relationship does bring together Zebra’s active location solutions with Checkpoint division OATSystems’ passive RFID, auto-ID and sensor capabilities.

Absa launches South Africa's first NFC pilot

Absa, the largest consumer bank in South Africa, has announced an internal trial of NFC-enabled contactless payments, according to IT News Africa.

Scheduled to kick off later this month, the pilot will see 500 Absa employees equip their BlackBerry smart phones with NFC-enabled MicroSD cards that can be used to make contactless payments.

Cape Town goes contactless on taxi fares

The Peninsula Taxi Association (PTA) in South Africa has launched a electronic fare collection system, granting commuters cashless fare and discounts when using the newly developed contactless-enabled transit card, according to The Cape Times.
