Gillette Denies Photographing Consumers

“But Gillette has hit back at the “misleading” claims, saying it only wants to use the RFID tags to improve the efficiency of its supply chain. The chips, when inserted into products, emit radio signals that allow them to be tracked. Gillette spokesman Paul Fox told silicon.com: “Our intention is very much pallet and case application within our supply chain. We have never nor do we have any intention to track, photograph or videotape consumers.””

I support Gillette’s move into item-level tagging, but I think we all know that Mr. Fox’s claim is untrue. [end] 

Skycore LLC has teamed up with Baltimore-based ticketing service provider MissionTix to pilot its new “codeREADr” Android app for validating NFC-enabled access credentials.

MissionTix will offer their venue clients reusable, rechargeable NFC wristbands that can be used to attend multiple ticketed events. Venue staff can read these wristbands by simply tapping them with an NFC-enabled Android 4.0 device equipped with Skycore’s codeREADr app. The app validates the data embedded in the wristband in real-time against an on-device or online database of authorized values, typically managed by a ticketing company or other service provider on behalf of the venue or merchant.

Six out of 10 consumers in the UK would avoid using NFC to make mobile payments, according to new research from VoucherCodes.co.uk.

Out of 2,000 adults surveyed by VoucherCodes, 60% said they would avoid using NFC to pay for goods even if they had the capability to do so. Of these, 36% cited security as their main reason for avoidance.
